SIS wants to inform you of important changes affecting Dynamics SL users as Microsoft shifts Dynamics SL to Extended Support.  This year, Microsoft will not be offering automatic year-end updates.  This will impact Payroll, Accounts Payable, and other key functionalities that may require manual adjustments for compliance in 2024 and beyond.

Mainstream Support for Dynamics SL has been discontinued.  Microsoft has now transitioned to Extended Support for Dynamics SL and is no longer providing:

  1. Non-security updates or new features: Only essential security patches will remain available.
  2. Year-End Updates: This year, you must make manual adjustments for Payroll, 1099 reporting, and other annual updates as Microsoft will no longer provide these updates automatically.
  • While you can still add new users or modules, support is limited. Reviewing the specific changes outlined below is especially important if you rely on Payroll or Accounts Payable.

Key Payroll and Accounts Payable Changes

  1. Payroll Adjustments
  • Social Security Wage Base Increase: For 2024, the wage base increased to $168,600 (up from $160,200). You’ll need to update these figures within Dynamics SL manually.
  • Electronic Filing of Forms W-2: IRS regulations now require electronic filing for employers issuing ten (10) or more W-2s. While Dynamics SL supports the older FIRE format, the new IRIS format may require manual adjustments for compliance.
  1. 1099 Reporting for Accounts Payable
  • New Reporting Thresholds: For 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC, the threshold has increased from $600 to $1,000, which may require report adjustments in Dynamics SL.
  • Direct Sales: The reporting threshold for direct sales dropped from $5,000 to $1,000, affecting reporting templates.
  1. Quarterly Tax Rate Updates:
  • Microsoft has also discontinued quarterly federal and state tax updates, meaning you must manually source and enter tax rate changes.

Next Steps

To ensure compliance and keep your systems running smoothly, we recommend:

  1. Reviewing Payroll and AP Needs: Assess where manual updates are required in Payroll and AP processes.
  2. Staying Informed of Regulatory Changes: Be proactive in sourcing new tax and regulatory updates.
  3. Contact SIS for help with these adjustments.
  4. Now is the time to begin planning the outsourcing of your Dynamics SL payroll processing. SIS is here to offer guidance in making this decision.

What You Need to Know

In January 2024, Dynamics SL 2018 transitioned to Extended Support.  Only security patches will be provided during this period, and no year-end updates will be available after 2024. However, existing Dynamics SL customers can still purchase new users or modules during the Extended Support phase.

The key features of Extended Support include:

  • Paid support options.
  • Continued availability of security updates at no additional cost.
  • No acceptance of new feature or design change requests.

With the end of Mainstream Support, Dynamics SL 2018 clients should be aware of the following:

  • Non-security updates will no longer be available.
  • To continue receiving support, it may be necessary to update to the latest Service Pack.
  • Microsoft stresses the importance of installing the latest security updates and product releases to ensure optimal security.

Questions?

SIS is here to help you navigate these updates and ensure your business remains compliant., submit a request to the SIS Assist team. Email these or any other Year-End related questions or issues to ASSIST@SISN.COM  and we are happy to assist you.

Oh where, oh where, has CustomerSource gone?

Many of you that have been around Microsoft Dynamics for a while recognize a very helpful resource is no longer available.  Microsoft CustomerSource website held a wealth of documentation and Microsoft account information for users to access.

Although the old site is retired, Microsoft has provided an even simpler place to go for information.

Where do we go now?

Microsoft created a site simply called Microsoft Docs, a modern web experience that holds content in short digestible pieces all in one place.  Microsoft realized that to get this new experience right they had to start from scratch.

Dynamics SL in Microsoft Docs and other on premise resources

Below are links to how to find Dynamics SL information including:

You will still be required to login to download products and service packs/hotfixes. Your Microsoft credentials that were used to login to CustomerSource have been migrated to the new platform.

If you have questions or need assistance with accessing these sites, please contact SIS.  We will be happy to help.

Digital Transformation in the Construction Industry https://sisn.dreamhosters.com/digital-transformation-in-the-construction-industry/ Fri, 04 Jan 2019 16:52:56 +0000 http://sisn.com/?p=3256 The post Digital Transformation in the Construction Industry appeared first on ERP | CRM | PM for Construction.

As we all know, technology is shaping the world with everything from electric cars to hyperloop. But when it comes to the construction industry, it is still underserved by technology. The construction industry contributes over 4% to the U.S. GDP, and is ready to adopt new technologies to automate processes and decrease dependencies on manual labor.  Digital transformation is at hand for the Construction industry.  In a recent report from Price Waterhouse Cooper study, “86% of CEOs say digital transformation is their number one priority.” Business leaders are rethinking what is possible using current technology to improve their processes, services and products.

The breakthrough technologies to make construction more efficient that have hit the market within the past few years have primed the industry for disruption. Every day construction workers probably don’t consider themselves to be integral to the development of artificial intelligence (AI). Nevertheless, they are at the core of the proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT). The IoT refers to a sensor or group of sensors that collects and transfers data via wired or wireless network to a platform where it is instantly acted upon, or to the Cloud where it is combined with other data to produce actionable insights.

Microsoft plans to invest $5 billion in the IoT over the next few years. Their goal is to give every customer the ability to transform their businesses, and the world at large, with connected solutions. SIS, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, can help accelerate your business transformation with IoT. We can reduce complexity, lower costs, and speed up your time to market. We can explore fully managed IoT services and solution accelerators designed for industry and scenarios like remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, smart spaces, and connected products.

Choosing a Microsoft Dynamics SL Partner – what you need to know https://sisn.dreamhosters.com/microsoft-dynamics-sl-partner/ Thu, 15 Nov 2018 16:02:41 +0000 http://sisn.com/?p=3007 The post Choosing a Microsoft Dynamics SL Partner – what you need to know appeared first on ERP | CRM | PM for Construction.

Whether you need new software or need support for your current Microsoft Dynamics SL Solution, choosing the right partner is as important as picking the right ERP or CRM solution.  Most people will only experience an ERP implementation once or possibly twice in their career.  ERP is not a “do it yourself” project. You need experienced and trained professionals to smoothly guide you to the finish line.

While there are many factors to consider, experience may be number one.  Remember your project success depends on the quality of your Dynamics SL Partner.

Experience

Many times technology Partners are chosen based on price rather than experience.   This is probably one of the biggest mistakes customers generally make.   Deeply experienced SL Partners and senior-grade, certified consultants will smooth the implementation process, anticipate issues before they become problems, and leverage their expertise to provide a realistic plan for your company. Read more about our experience.

Knows your industry

A good Dynamics SL Partner to choose is one that understands your industry.  They talk your language and you will not need to bring them up to speed.  This one quality provides an immediate ROI.   Your industry and your business is unique so engaging with a SL Partner that understands both your industry and your technology goals is vital.

Seeks to understand your business

The most successful technology partner’s listens as you describe your business goals and your challenges before proposing technology solutions.  They articulate their software capabilities as related to your industry and explain the value of their solution in plain English so all can understand.  The ability to understand your requirements, transform them into action, and communicate with you every step of the way comes from a Partner with deep experience and successful, long-term relationships.

Resources

The depth and breadth of a Dynamics SL Partners resource team should also be an important consideration.  If your business is a experiencing substantial growth or your projects are large, than resources and services need to be available to handle your needs.  Some partners are great at implementing software but offer no additional resources such as ongoing support/Customer Care, training, development, and upgrades.   When deciding on a Microsoft Dynamics SL Partner asks these questions:

Is the Partner set up to handle difficult support issues?

Do they offer development services to implement necessary customizations?

Can they provide training to be sure that both your current and future employees are productive and efficient?

Do they have the support to handle future upgrades and software maintenance?

Defined Methodologies

When dealing with software implementations, successful partners must have a defined methodology for every aspect of delivery.  There should be stages for:

  • Diagnosing and analyzing needs
  • Designing a plan
  • Developing new features
  • Deployment of your software solution
  • Training and supporting your employees

Keep Your Business Competitive and Thriving

Why should you upgrade?

The software that runs your business is not something you can implement and forget about. Technology develops at a rapid rate and it is vital to keep your business and software completely up to date to ensure your business continues to function effectively.

Security and compliance

Out of date and unsupported software could lead to slow performance, risk of crashing, compliance issues and loss of valuable data.  If your system is unsupported, who will be able to help?

Employees are spending more time entering information manually.

Time is money and this could be costing you more money than you think.  Taking advantage of new improvements could solve this issue.  Upgrades introduce improvements and new features that increase your efficiency and productivity.

Integration with the latest technology

It is very important to stay current on the latest version in order to ensure that software integrations do not become a problem for you.  Older software versions may not provide your employees with the capability to use the latest technology like IPads and mobile devices.  These devices are common place in businesses and permit your people to work anywhere at any time and get more done.

Power Apps & Flow

Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 included a Power App and Flow example that shows the value add of these Microsoft technologies to Microsoft Dynamics SL users. The Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 CU2 continues this by updating the existing Power App and adding nine new Flow email notifications.

SL Home Page enhancement

The Microsoft Dynamics SL Menu Home page feature updated to support modern web pages. This means that web sites containing information on SharePoint, SL DocShare SSRS reports or other sites will display and allow interactions within the Microsoft Dynamics SL menu system.

Some of the improvements you will find in Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 include:

  • Web Apps:  New product that runs on any browser and mobile device.  It replaces Business Portal to perform the following functions: Project Analysis Reports
  • Timecards (employees who enter their own time)
  • Timesheets (employees who enter time for others)
  • Advanced Payroll Timecard Entry
  • Expense Reports with attachments
  • Project Approvals (timecards, expense reports, budget revisions, project invoices)
  • Quick Query and Crystal Reports
  • Business Analyzer:  A modern business intelligence (BI) app that graphically displays key information about your business. Business Analyzer is available as web-based reporting and is now supported for use with Microsoft Dynamics SL on the Windows 8/10 Modern UI
  • Project Analyst:  Now available as an SSRS report that can be launched from Report Server, Web Apps, or Business Analyzer
  • Management Reporter:  Web based financial reports with similar functionality to FRx
  • Improved F3 search capabilities – Now when you perform a lookup (F3) in Dynamics SL 2015 you can do partial text searches, export F3 lookups to Excel, etc.
  • Improved report search capabilities – “Easy to read” column names in sort/select, plus you can use F3 to determine values when building your selection criteria!
  • Improved report delivery capabilities – can export a report directly to MS-Outlook email without printing or exporting to PDF
  • Improved Quick Query export capabilities – Quick Queries can now be exported directly to an Excel Pivot Table or table bound grid (updates itself each time you re-open the spreadsheet)
  • Resource Planning: A new Web Apps module to help you plan and assign resources to projects and tasks.  Planning and assignment can be done by project or by resource.
  • Multi-Company and Multi-Currency Projects – Takes advantage of Dynamics SL built-in multi-company and multi-currency platform to allow users in the project modules to work in multiple companies / currencies without signing in/out.
  • Introduction to Power BI – Power BI transforms your company’s data into rich visuals for you to collect.

Next Steps – Contact us and we will provide you with a clear and concise strategy and work plan for a smooth and successful upgrade.  We can schedule a personalized demonstration of Dynamics SL 2018 to you and your team to help you plan your upgrade.   We will take the time to review your current environment and software customizations and give you a reliable individualized plan of your path to Dynamics SL 2018.

You can either complete the form on the contact page or give us a call at 844.418.1592.  A member of our upgrade team will contact you to discuss your upgrade and explain the process.

Some of the new features demonstrated include:

  • Power BI – business analytics tools to analyze real-time data and share insights
  • Power Apps – create and use custom business apps across platforms
  • Flow – Easily monitor, notify and take action
  • Web Apps – New Apps available
  • Financials, Distribution, and Project Enhancements
  • User Interface Enhancements
  • Odata Service – connecting SL to 3rd party systems

The release of Dynamics SL 2018 includes the following:

  • Query & Preview Enhancements
  • New Approvals Processes added to key areas
  • GL/AP/Financials Interface Enhancements
  • Projects Enhancements
  • Distribution Enhancements
  • Power Suite Evolution – Power BI, Power Apps for SL, Flow for SL, and more

Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 CU7 includes:

  • This update focused more on the 1099-NEC Form, as well as the 1099-MISC Form. The 1099-NEC or Non-Employee Compensation has been updated to support the IRS 2021 tax reporting formats. The same goes for the 1099-MISC (03.740.00) Form. The new 1099 Forms can be printed through the 1099 Forms Report.
  • In addition, some minor fixes have been included in CU7

Microsoft Dynamics SL CU8 is now out, what is new and what has changed in this release:

  • The DMGDataAccess Business Object now uses the Microsoft OLE DB driver for SQL Server Version 18 in the latest update. This means that Inventory Replenishment Create Transaction, Convert EDI Pos to Sales Orders, and Orders to Purchase will all now connect using the OLE DB driver.
  • SL CU8 will be able to run on Windows 11, if you have questions on how this works, please Contact Us.
  • The look and feel of journal entries have also changed with this update. The Journal Entry (01.010.00) screen has been updated to now have hidden labels. These labels generate list text for the cBatchHandling and creconstatus drop down controls. There are hidden labels for O and V options of the cbattype dropdown to make localization easier. See the picture above for the hidden label controls.

“I’m writing this letter to express how satisfied Melrose PLC is with the services that SIS provided us. We contacted SIS to help us upgrade our ERP solution and consolidate a number of databases with multiple companies into a single environment and in order to accomplish this we needed a strong, experienced Partner that took the time to understand our requirements along with our businesses’ processes. From the beginning, we received excellent service, support, and a professional team that demonstrated they truly cared about the success and timeliness of the project.

Much of the success of this project was due to a strong project management and a knowledgeable Sr. Consultant, who was very responsive and delivered timely communications throughout. The entire SIS team delivered on all of their promises, thereby, delivering the project on time and on budget. I would highly recommend SIS as a Microsoft Business Partner that will seek to meet and exceed their customer expectations.”

Jason Care, Group Systems Manager – Melrose PLC
